CHADD Parent Support Group

Strategies for developing self-discipline in the classroom

The focus of this workshopis to help schools develop children’s self-discipline - a critical component of comprehensive school discipline that is often lacking in school-wide PBS programs. Participants will learn: 1) What constitutes self-discipline, and ehy it’s important; 2) Practical strategies for using praise and reinforcers to help develop self-discipline; 3) Cognitions and emotions that underlie self-disckipline, and strategies for addressing them; and 4) Practical strategies for balancing responsiveness and demandingness to build and maintain close teacher-student relations, prevent misbehavior, and develop self-discipline.
