Students Playing catch-up as they hit college!

Wednesday, March 31, 2010

Nearly 40% of high school graduates need at least 1 remedial class when they get to college. Each year, tens of thousand of students are in this purgatory – no longer in high school but not ready for college. Studies show that those students take longer to earn a college degree, if they do at all. Taxpayers pay millions of dollars each year to subsidize the remedial classes. Figures show some improvement in recent years, but the problem persists.

Colleges, school systems, nonprofit groups and others across the country are seeking solutions. High schools are working more closely with colleges, standards are being reassessed, tutoring is replacing remedial classes, and all are working together to change this trend.

What ideas do you have that might help?
